Hope others can make the trip to Friday Harbor this weekend. So far Juans2B and Juanita are going. The Juans2Bs are leaving Thursday hoping to spend a night at Sucia Island before making the trip to Friday Harbor on Friday. The race around Shaw island starts at Friday Harbor at noon on Saturday ,the course is either way around Shaw island and back. It's typically a light air race and sometimes no one actually makes it all the way around by the 6pm time limit. The dinner and party at the yacht club is always good,,and hanging out in Friday Harbor is always fun. Contact Jack or Paul for more information.

We had a good trip, 3 nights on the boat.  My friend Dave and his brother Brad brought their boat, a Mcgreggor 22,  We launched from near the ferry dock in Anacortes about the same time.  Dave has to be plugged in at night so they headed to Fisherman's bay on Lopez while Vanessa and I sailed north to Sucia island.. The first couple hours of the trip was a little unnerving as there was fog and you couldn't see very far.  The fog horns of the big ships were a bit of a concern.. later the fog lifted but there was no wind so we motored up to Sucia Island and anchored with 50 other boats in the main bay there.  We blew up the inflatable kayak and went ashore for a long walk around.. cool island, camping and places for boats on all sides.  The next morning we headed out in no wind to Friday Harbor, got some wind as we entered San Juan Channel and made it to Friday Harbor about noon.. There we met up with Dave and Brad and went up town for some shopping and dinner.  Saturday's race started at noon, either way around Shaw Island.  Dave got ahead of us on the first down wind leg but when we made the turn between the islands he had more troubles and we got ahead of him by a long way.  When we got to the half way point it looked like those who chose to go the counter clockwise direction were about even with us.  The wind filled in for the up wind leg up Upright Channel along Lopez, we made it into Friday harbor about 4pm finishing 3rd in our class (got a trophy!)   They had a regatta party/dinner at the yacht club as usual.  Our plan was to head back Sunday AM but the wind was so strong we thought we'd stay another night till conditions improved.   Later in the afternoon things settled down some and we headed out with the wind at our back.  It was blowing a perfect direction and though we were getting tossed around a bit on Rosario straits  we made it back to the boat launch and after some trouble because of the direction of the winds at the ramp we got the boats loaded and headed home..
